"We must become the people our children want us to be."
Joseph Chilton Pierce
Play is the way that children experience, explore and engage with the world around them. It is the primary process by which their mind brain system grows and flourishes. The Nurtured Heart Approach® is a unique process that recognizes the greatness in everyone and is designed to build the the Inner Wealth® in children. In my book Nurtured Heart Play, I offer simple and effective ways within play to embody, actualize and learn this powerful modality. Nurtured Heart Play is a new way to deepen the social emotional learning the takes place during play and will support any adult who works closely with children.
“The Nurtured Heart Approach is all about energizing the positive aspects of behavior, being very clear with behavior boundaries and rules, while recognizing and appreciating the special qualities in everyone. Play is all about possibilities, imagination, creativity, learning and fun. Bringing these two together is truly a win-win situation.” A quote form the soon to be released book, Nurtured Heart Play.
In a Nurtured Heart Play training you will learn:
* Why play is important in a child’s life is a key to learning;
* How play is fundamentally helpful in supporting the social and emotional development of a child;
* Why the energy of play is so coherent with the Nurtured Heart Approach;
* How the Three Stands and Four Recognitions of NHA can be taught using play as educational platform;
* And how to use specific games that are kid-tested and teacher-approved, and can be used in a variety of classroom or group settings.

The Nurtured Heart Approach
Ongoing work in neuroscience has led to an understanding that our brains are hard-wired for negativity – a part of our long evolutionary process that keeps us safe from danger. However, it also leads us to focus on our worries, miseries, and doubts. To shift the negative bias to a positive bias, we have to consciously work on inputting positivity. There is compelling science in the field of positive psychology that supports how helpful it is to input positive expressions into our lives. Gratitude, appreciation, acknowledgment, and recognition are powerful ways to create optimism, heart-centeredness, and even good health.
Howard Glasser developed this approach to support parents in guiding their difficult children to use their intensity differently. As a child and family therapist, Glasser found that the traditional methods he was using to try to help families with intense children were not only ineffective – they were backfiring. He began to tune in to the energetics of the interactions between these parents and children, and to re-experience the way the dynamics worked in his own history as a challenging child. He arrived at a series of insights that helped him to shift the way he was working with children and families, and was able to encapsulate them in a few stories and principles. The approach that evolved from that point turned out to have dramatically positive impact not only on difficult children, but on all children – and on the adults who were learning and applying the approach as well and is being used world wide in schools and mental health agencies and by counselors, therapists, educators and parents who care about the success and well being of all children.
