Authentic Connection Through Play

The core of what I do is create connection, safety, and community using play, the essential element of learning that all children know and everyone needs. There are all kinds of ways to play - collaborative games, imaginative play, free play, improv and theater games - each one nurtures another level of trust and authentic connection within the group. When people play together, they’re able to tap into their inner knowing, laughing, and sharing joy.

Satisfying the basic human need for belonging is the key to solving your toughest people problems, whether at work or in the classroom.

Because when we play together,
we remember how to be human together.

For over 35 years, I’ve helped thousands of educators, students, and organizations rediscover what neuroscience confirms: well-led play is the fastest path to relational trust, emotional regulation, and genuine connection.

As co-founder of the Adventure Game Theater (featured on PBS and NPR), faculty member at the Omega Institute, and author of Nurtured Heart Play and The Heart of Play Games Manual, I’ve refined a philosophy that transforms groups from the inside out.

“We didn’t just learn about the power of play — we experienced it. The laughter, engagement, and sense of community in the room were incredible.”
– Julie White Jefferson-Lewis BOCES

What makes my approach different?
I don't just teach games—I teach the leadership skills and neuroscience behind why play works. My workshops blend cooperative play, improv theater, and restorative communication practices into experiences that are immediately applicable, deeply engaging, and accessible. Whether you're an educator seeking to reduce classroom anxiety and build belonging, or a leader wanting to strengthen team cohesion and morale, I create the safe, joyful environment where authentic connection happens naturally.

The result?

  • Classrooms where students are emotionally regulated and socially connected.

  • Workplaces where teams trust each other and collaborate creatively.

  • Communities where people feel they truly belong.

“Play is nature’s training for Life.”

“The feedback from educators was overwhelmingly positive. Many shared that play is a powerful tool not only because it boosts engagement, but because it teaches students that making mistakes is a natural and essential part of learning. Others noted how playful, cooperative games can be intentionally used to support SEL instruction and reach even the hardest-to-reach students.”
